Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation
Established in 2000, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) is dedicated to funding national ovarian cancer research. The OCRF wants to ensure a future where no woman’s well-being is under threat from ovarian cancer by:
- prioritising research that will have the biggest impact for the most women & girls
- collaborating with ovarian cancer experts to identify & pursue promising projects
- reducing current lethal threat & striving for complete eradication of ovarian cancer
- providing hope & personalised treatment options aimed at extending the lives of women & girls currently fighting ovarian cancer
- aiming to develop a non-invasive, accessible, reliable early detection test that will save women’s & girls' lives
- focusing on prevention & cure so women & girls will live without threat of ovarian cancer
Facts about ovarian cancer:
- in Australia, one woman or girl dies every 8 hours from ovarian cancer
- around 1,800 australian women & girls are diagnosed with ovarian cancer annually
- there is no early detection test for ovarian cancer - 70% of women & girls are diagnosed in advanced stages & only 25% survive beyond 5 years
- causes of ovarian cancer are unknown
- symptoms can be vague & easily attributed to other conditions
- the same ovarian cancer drugs have been used since 1992
