SHE Album Celebrates the Life of Taryn Fiebig
ㅤ
March 20, 2022 sadly marked the first anniversary of the death of much loved opera soprano, Taryn Fiebig, who died from ovarian cancer aged 49.
To celebrate Taryn’s life as well as to raise awareness of the terrible toll that ovarian cancer is taking on Australian women, the SHE CD was launched on March 20, 2022.
As an ambassador of the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF), it was Taryn’s wish to raise money for the OCRF as well as awareness about ovarian cancer. To that end, she recorded the SHE CD before she died.
The CD is titled SHE and stands for Survival Hope Empowerment - a powerful mantra for women with ovarian cancer. All monies from the sale of the SHE CD will go to the OCRF.

“I have never heard someone play the cello and sing so divinely at the same time............. ” - HRH Prince Charles Buckingham Palace January 2015
‘One of our greatest’: Star soprano Taryn Fiebig dies at 49
“The untimely death of Taryn Fiebig is a huge loss not just for the delight and enchantment she brought to thousands, but because her artistic growth continued to chart new horizons even as she struggled with illness in recent years. ” - Peter McCallum SMH
On March 20, 2021, Taryn Fiebig sadly became another ovarian cancer statistic. Taryn had determinedly fought the disease for over 3 years but, as with many other women who have died from this insidious disease, Taryn was not diagnosed until she was in the late stages of ovarian cancer.
Taryn was still young and her star still ascending when the cancer struck. Not only was she looking forward to playing many more and varied opera roles but also to a full life with her husband, Jud and stepdaughters at their farm in the NSW Southern Highlands. Although in the shadow of ovarian cancer, Taryn continued performing, often whilst undergoing treatment.
"I was moved to tears by the standing ovation. It was a connection with the audience I’ve never felt before. They didn’t know I have cancer or that I’ve been thinking about my own mortality in sharp focus, but it was as though we were all sympatico to the music’s meaning and we understood each other." Taryn Fiebig, Ukaria, March 2018
There are thousands of women like Taryn whose lives have been cut short by ovarian cancer who also had so much more to enjoy and give to life. Research is desperately needed to find an early detection test and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer. Donations to OCRF www.ocrf.com.au/donations.
The Making of SHE Album
Two years before she died, Taryn Fiebig became an ambassador for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. She was keen to raise funds for the OCRF as well as awareness of the impact of ovarian cancer.
As a result, the plan to record an album of Taryn performing her favourite songs was put into action. I’d lost my darling sister Janette to ovarian cancer in 2018 and was keen to help Taryn make the album a reality.
Our dear friend Guy Noble offered to liaise with Taryn and sort all the music as well as accompany her on the piano and conduct the orchestra. The album would not have been possible without the many many hours that Guy put into the project, not to mention his fabulous musicianship. Thanks also to Sally Schinckel-Brown who organised the wonderful orchestra and string quintet.
We thought that SHE should be the name of the album as Survival Hope Empowerment is a powerful mantra for women with ovarian cancer. Originally recorded with just piano, SHE was re-recorded after Taryn’s death. Graeme Brown wrote the wonderful string arrangement. The marvellous string quintet comprised Sally Schinckel-Brown, Jemima Littlemore, Belinda Jezek, Marianne Yeomans & Nicole Murray-Prior. The superb choir featured Cheryl Barker, Peter Coleman-Wright, Jane Ede, John Longmuir, Dominica Matthews & Taryn’s husband, Jud Arthur together with Taryn’s students, Libby Cooper & Elise Nolte.
Thanks also to my wonderful son Sam, a graphic design graduate from RMIT, who spent weeks creating the fabulous CD wallet, booklet insert & website.
All these people gave their services freely and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
All proceeds from the album go to the OCRF and I would encourage you to donate further to them. www.ocrf.com.au I’m sure that Taryn would be very pleased if you did!
